The Written Word – Always in Fashion

Rereading some of the thousands of tweets and mentions about handwriting and stationery recently, which appeared around National Stationery Week in April – not to mention the vast number of references to it in the consumer press – one thing is clear.

Stationery and writing by hand won’t be going out of fashion anytime soon!  Quite the opposite, in fact….it’s very much on the up.

Much of today’s stationery is desirable, and almost more of a fashion accessory than a necessity.  It can be as much a part of your look as a handbag, shoes or specs.

Although some might find it helpful to their cause, or simply fashionable to write off handwriting (forgive the pun) and its importance, there is growing evidence that this is all rather premature.  And that is before we announce our plans for next year’s National Stationery Week and Get Britain Writing campaign.

Handwritten notes are more personal, and mean more.  They focus the mind of the sender and – depending on what they might say of course! – make the recipient feel good.  How many people can say that?
